The STEAKS were high.. so Plein Air went higher

I’ve recently teamed up with the agency Plein Air on a commercial styling project for Café Rio in Salt Lake proper, and it was a flavorful experience. We took over a commercial kitchen to capture the essence of their already-delicious carne asada recipe, styling mouthwatering process shots of sizzling steak on the grill and refreshing glasses of prickly pear lemonade. The goal was to make every frame as crave-worthy as the food itself, and with the energy of the Plein Air team behind it, the shoot brought Café Rio’s signature flavors to life in a way that will have anyone’s mouth watering.

A not-so-solemn OATH Holiday treat

This month I’ve also styled a commercial shoot for Trove Brands’ OATH Hydration product line—a project that was as colorful and fun as it was creative. The campaign blended still photography with playful stop-motion for vertical and social formats, which gave us the chance to experiment with movement and energy while keeping the design minimal, bright, and vibrant. I worked alongside Trove’s incredibly talented Art Direction team to bring non-traditional holiday looks to life, and together we created visuals that felt fresh, modern, and full of personality. It was a joy to lean into bold color and clean design while helping showcase OATH Hydration in a lively, eye-catching way.

Dancers…enter stage left!

One of the things I love most about my career is the range of projects my clients bring my way. On any given day, I might be deep in the details of designing a TV show, and the next I’m creating something entirely different—like my current project: a choreography deck for the Brandy + Monica The Boy Is Mine tour with the legendary Creative Director Frank Gatson. A colleague from a past show brought me onto this one, and I’m so grateful—because in just a couple of weeks, I’ve learned so much about the Creative Director’s mindset when it comes to live performance. It’s been eye-opening, inspiring, and simply exciting to be part of the process. Experiences like this remind me why I love saying “yes” to diverse design opportunities—I get to keep growing while contributing to unforgettable creative work.

As Designer: Love the Way You Lie

Designing sizzles is always a creative challenge I love taking on, and our recent project for the upcoming show I Love The Way You Lie was no exception. Working with my extremely talented small team, we transformed an office space at the All3Media offices into a fully realized café—complete with a two-way glass observation suite—all on a limited budget and timeline. The goal was to create a convincing, engaging environment for vertical content that could help bring the concept to life, and I’m proud of how seamlessly it came together. We created practical stoplight props as engaging visuals for the viewer - these shows can be brutal for the contestants, which makes them extremely addictive to watch! Projects like this are proof that resourceful design and a collaborative team can deliver big results, no matter the constraints. I’m excited to do more sizzles with All3Media and other production companies, continuing to show what’s possible within budget while keeping the creative vision sharp.

As Designer : SAY YES TO THE EX

Every so often in television, you pour your heart into a project only to watch it disappear before it makes it to air. I recently production designed a show for BET from start to finish—rich, vibrant, and fully budgeted—only for it to be shelved before cameras rolled (rumor has it due to a talent connection with a recently defamed musician). While it was disappointing not to see it come alive, that’s the nature of this business: unpredictable and always full of twists. What remains is the satisfaction of knowing the design was strong, the vision was clear, and the process sharpened my skills yet again. I’m always excited to bring that same energy and adaptability to house reality formats, with or without competition-style games. Designing for television keeps us on our toes, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Taskforce Social Justice Art Show “Into Action 2024”

For a recent social justice art installation with TASKFORCE, I had the privilege of collaborating with Producers Dawn Sinko, Yosi Sergant, and an incredible team of artists on a project that was as meaningful as it was hands-on. My role spanned from creating 3D layouts and detailed instructions for printers and installers to literally getting my hands dirty—hammering nails and stretching construction tape to build a striking, dynamic display. (Let’s just say, by the end, everyone’s fingers were feeling it!) One of my favorite responsibilities was drafting elevations to ensure the precise spacing of suspended elements. The organizer in me loves when every measurement clicks into place, and watching the installation come together exactly as envisioned was both satisfying and inspiring.

Continuing the Social Justice side-step, a long-time Art Director contact brought me on to graphic design a new Social Media Campaign for the National Immigration Law Center, FREEDOM TO THRIVE, meant to provide better living conditions for immigrants. We co-designed this multi-theme spread which will debut in April (pending approval…). If you want to learn more, check out their site, FREEDOM TO THRIVE.
